Whatever You Are Not Changing, You Are Choosing.

A friend sent me this quote, which sparked a thought… that turned into a newsletter.

All the things that make you stronger, wiser, and better… are uncomfortable.

In my 1:1 fitness training, the words uncomfortable, hard, difficult, painful, and frustrating, come up from time to time. In fact, all my clients know that in training, we’re aiming for “challenging, but doable.” The same goes for health coaching, we’re striving to make changes, not in a way that’s super scary, but in a way that pushes you to do something different, which is always a little uncomfortable. It’s my motto of sorts, “challenging, but doable.” There are a lot of reasons for that.

Challenging because…

  1. You can’t expect to get different results, by doing the same thing.

  2. You can’t expect to grow (mentally and physically) without some discomfort.

  3. You can’t expect to build a business if you don’t learn to accept and learn from failure.

  4. You can’t get wiser or smarter if you assume you know it all already.

Doable because…

  1. You can’t expect to want to make a change if the change sounds super daunting.

  2. Baby steps are always easier than giant leaps.

  3. You don’t want to make it so painful, that you never want to try again.

Change is oftentimes scary because you’re used to being comfortable, that’s why you’ve stayed there. Even if where you are, isn’t where you want to be, you stay because it’s familiar. Here’s some tough love for you though:

“Whatever you are not changing, you are choosing.”

No matter how you spin it, it comes back to this… You are choosing to stay.

So, I’m going to leave you with a few questions that will help you lean towards doing a little something today that’s, “challenging, but doable,” to get unstuck and move towards the life you really want. I know it’s scary, but the more doable you make it, the easier it will be. Remember, nothing good ever came from staying in your comfort zone :) If you feel stuck, it’s time to try something different.
